Day 4 Puglia Experience
Friday, day 3 of the tour.
This morning we headed to Trani, a small fishing port. As soon as we arrived it reminded us of a place we had visited in Greece called Chania.

First selfie of the holiday, no selfie stick, with Trani harbour in the background.

We walked along the port’s foreshore and visited the Templar Knights’ church. This church is very different from many that you see throughout Europe as it is not adorned with gold leaf, paintings, statues, elaborate carvings. It was thought to be built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century and was a place of blessing for those setting out on a crusade as it is built right on the port.
No pictures etc just beautiful plain stone. I found this refreshingly beautiful.
Simply stated.

The original front door of the church now placed inside to protect it for all time.
Next stop was a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Let me tell you this was the best food I think I have had. The restaurant was very rustic and it based all its food on the produce from the local area even making their own bread and taralli, a traditional snack(Italy’s answer to the pretzel).
Antichi Sapori Restaurant in Monterosso. If you are in the area it is a must.
The best ricotta with caramelised celery, yumo
Succulent local cherries
Boxes full of numerous herbs.
Another Castle was visited in the afternoon. Castle del Monte, a UNESCO protected site and a symbol of Puglia.
DAY 4 of the tour was a visit to Martina Franca, the queen of baroque towns in Puglia. Followed by a town called Locorotondo and another wonderful lunch at a special restaurant. The afternoon was a visit to Ostuni, a charming place on a hilltop with a labyrinth of lanes lined with houses painted in white lime.
I have lots of photos but have given up on this blogging site as it has taken all afternoon to post this. I don’t like to quit but the site is a punish and it has driven me to drink.🍷
The 4 day Puglia Experience with Angelo was very interesting. Lots of places visited that we would not have seen otherwise. Probably too many castles and churches and not enough down time but overall well worth the experience. Puglia is an area still virtually untouched by tourism, with very little English spoken which is a great challenge, thank heavens for the translating app I put on my phone.
This is the last post I am going to do on this site. Will post some pics on Instagram and Facebook. Such a shame it’s not working properly and I think I have tried all options to fix it.
